search engines

You don’t need me to tell you about google, Yahoo! and the other big ones. But a few you might not have come across are well worth a look. Colossus is a list of international search engines; metaglossary finds meanings for your searches; keyboardr has a novel way of letting you navigate around the page; and cooliris displays search results in a novel but compelling way. Also, the well-known Internet Archive (aka the Wayback Machine) allows you to search the Internet as it looked back in the day! WIkiwix lets you search Wikipedia, and PDFind searches for PDFs.

looking for people

There are many sites that help you find people online: usernamecheck is quite good, though not always accurate; spokeo and rapleaf are pretty smart if you’re careful what buttons you press!
